MUFG N0W in Australia: Transition and Access to Global Capital 13 November 2023
MUFG held its inaugural MUFG N0W in Oceania in in association with media partner KangaNews in Sydney.

Themed “Transition and Access to Capital”, the event brought together senior leaders and specialists to discuss the latest ESG trends, including complexities and challenges of energy transition and the implications for global capital flows.
Ehsan Khoman, Head of Research, Commodities, ESG and Emerging Markets Research with MUFG EMEA gave the first keynote address covering various themes, including the contextualisation of the global Net Zero transition against the energy trilemma of affordability, security and sustainability.
This was followed by a Q&A session where the role of an Australian taxonomy in mobilising capital toward decarbonization was discussed. Interviewees included David Dyer, Partner and Leader of McKinsey Sustainability in Australia and New Zealand at McKinsey & Company, and Nicole Yazbek-Martin, Head of Taxonomy at the Australian Sustainable Finance Institute.
A second keynote address was given by Andrew Bedford, MUFG’s Energy Transition Technical Lead, Asia Pacific on emerging technologies and how they are expected to drive energy transition in Australia and Asia Pacific.
MUFG N0W Sydney wrapped with a panel discussion showcasing different energy transition funding perspectives and ideas on how corporates and institutions can support the global transition. The panel included Anthea McKinnell, Chief Financial Officer at Santos, Daniel Timms, Head of Asset Management, Australia and New Zealand at Igneo Infrastructure Partners, Siong Ooi, Managing Director and Co-Head of Debt Capital Markets - Loans and Bonds, Asia Pacific at MUFG, and Matthew McFarlane, Executive Director and Head of Australian Power, Utilities and Energy Transition at Morgan Stanley.
Shareef Omar, Head of ESG Finance at MUFG Oceania, said: “MUFG N0W has sought to demystify the complexities and challenges of energy transition and the implications it will have on global capital flows for corporates and sponsors.”
