|Overview||BTMU’s history in Russia began in 1992 with the Moscow Representative Office. In 2005 the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi made a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Saint Petersburg. In May 2008, BTMU opened a Representative Office in St. Petersburg, as the first office of a Japanese bank in the city.
St. Petersburg is the second-largest city in Russia and the eighth-largest in Europe. It was founded in 1703 as the "Window on the West" and served as the capital of Russia for 200 years. St. Petersburg is an important financial and industrial city, and today is one of the most attractive Russian cities from the point of view of investment. St. Petersburg’s automobile cluster, which includes General Motors, Nissan, Toyota, and Hyundai, has earned it the nickname of the Russian Detroit. We are confident that our service is competitive, as BTMU is the main bank for many Japanese companies.
