Establishment of "Social & Environmental Risk Assessment
Office"
Today, we launched "Social & Environmental Risk
Assessment Office" in the Structured Finance Division. The new office is
responsible for assessing and managing social & environmental risk in project
financing in accordance with "Equator Principles", succeeding to duties
formerly handled by Structured Finance Division.
The Equator Principles are common standards that private financial institutions
apply to, assess and manage social & environmental risks in project financing.
They are based upon the policies and guidelines of the World Bank Group. Each
financial institution that adopts the Equator Principles will consult with a borrower
in order to comply with the Principles, and incorporate this review into the institution's
decision to provide financing to the project.
